Check off another travel milestone - stepped foot on another continent - South America

How many have you traveled to?

Cartagena, Colomba made a great 1st impression on me. Wow, Cartagena is so cosmopolitan. I had no idea. Huge skyscrapers butting up to the Old Town, founded in the 16th century.

I visited the Castle San Felipe de Barajas, a hilltop fortress built in the 1600s. Go early before the sun is beating down on you. The temps rise quickly in Cartagena. You'll be rewarded for your walk up the incline to the fortress with a great view of Cartagena.

Then we went down to the old walled town to the Plaza Santo Domingo and enjoyed Mass in the Cathedral Santa Catalina de Alejandria.

Another great view of Cartegena came as our cruise ship departed the port. We had a terrific view of the skyline and then of Rosario Islands, an easy day trip from Cartagena.

I recommend going to Cartegena. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Also, keep in mind that Amawaterways, a river cruise company, will offer 7-night cruises on the Magdelena River from Cartagena to Barranquilla. You'll see the wonders of Colombia.
